Saxagliptin is used in mixture with metformin, a sulfonylurea (e.g., gliclazide, glyburide), or insulin to improve blood sugar levels. It is used by people with type 2 diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent nerve problems, kidney damage, blindness, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may also reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke.
