    The rate of solidification in the continuous casting process dictates the speed of production.     1.     Preparation before construction

    (1)   Check whether the gas, compressed air and industrial electricity are normal, whether there is leakage, and whether all valves are completely closed.

    (2)   Check if all kinds of control instruments and vibration motors are working properly.

    (3)   Check whether the raw material has agglomeration. If there is serious agglomeration, it should not be used; if there is a small amount of agglomeration, the agglomerate should be crushed before use, or discarded.

    (4)   The residue of the permanent lining surface of the tundish, residual steel and other debris must be removed.

    (5)   If there is a crack of ≥3mm in the permanent lining of the tundish, it must be repaired first, and the repairing material must be dried before construction.

    (6)   Evenly apply 2~3mm release agent (or waste engine oil + graphite) on the working lining tire.

    1. Construction

    (1) Turn the package according to the specified time and transport the tundish to the construction site.

    (2)   The dry material is transported to the construction site, and placed evenly around the tundish to be constructed, and the packaging pocket is opened.

    (3)   Construction starts when the wall temperature is lower than 100 °C. When the temperature is high, it must be cooled by a fan.

    (4)   Bottom of the construction package: Place the bricks, impact plates, stabilizers, retaining walls, and dams on the bottom of the package with welded steel frames or hard fiberboards (to later place the bricks and impact boards, etc.). The dry material is poured into the bottom of the package, and the material is smoothed with a shovel. The height of the dry material at the bottom of the package should reach the required thickness of the bottom of the package. The thickness of the dry material at the bottom of the package is 100 mm.

    (5)   Lifting mold tire: use the crane to lift the mold tire into the tundish, adjust the position of the mold tire by the positioning rod, and make the distance between the mold and the permanent liner of the tundish as the design thickness, and the dry thickness of the wall. It is 75mm, and the gap between the tire and the permanent lining is equidistant, and the error is less than 5 mm to prevent the working lining from being thinner and affecting the life. If the bottom of the dry material is not flat, if the tire is not vertical, the tire must be lifted, and then the bottom of the bag is re-padded. Install the slag wall and the dam retaining groove mold.

    (6)   Construction wall: After the dry materials packed in the small bag are placed along the various points of the tire, the layers are evenly layered at each point and poured into the gap between the package and the permanent lining, to the position of the mouth, dry material Do not drop too much (less than 300 mm per layer) to avoid segregation of dry materials. Turn on the vibration motor and continue to pour dry material until the dry material fills up. The motor vibration time is generally 5 minutes (depending on the motor excitation strength). For example, if there is a special reason during construction (for example, if a motor suddenly fails to work), it may cause some parts to be difficult to be tapped. It may be temporarily tempered with a stick such as steel brazing, tamping the dry material and appropriately prolonging the vibration time. . Solve problems in time afterwards. Do not pour the ropes and other debris during construction to ensure the safe use of the tundish.

    (7) Low-temperature baking: open the air valve and blow it into the mold tire for 5~10min to ensure that the gas concentration in the mold tire is reduced below the explosion limit, and the air valve remains open; open the gas main valve, then open the gas sub-valve one by one and ignite, open Immediately after the valve, the ignition should be started. If there is any abnormality, immediately close the gas main valve and check it, then press the ignition program to ignite; point the burner to adjust the flame to the appropriate size. By adjusting the burner flame, the temperature in the mold cavity is controlled at 200~250 °C, and the baking time is controlled at 50~60min (depending on the baking temperature).

    (8)   Turn off the fire: After the baking reaches the requirement (the color of the dry material is about 1/3 or the color changes or becomes hard/sticky), the fire can be stopped (the gas is stopped first and then the air is stopped). If there are individual burners due to firepower It is weak and can extend the burning time of this burner separately. When the fire is stopped, the gas main valve and the sub-valve are closed, and the natural cooling is more than 1 hour (if the tire temperature is still high, the compressed air can be forced to cool, but it will produce fine cracks, which will not affect the use). It can be demolded when the control is below 100 °C and the gap between the package tire and the working lining is around.

    (9) Demoulding: Use the crane to lift the membrane to the designated position. When demoulding, it should be lifted vertically and slowly. Pay attention to the uniform force to prevent damage to the well-constructed lining and produce transverse cracks. Check the thickness and strength of the working lining after demolding, and find the problem in time.

    1. a) minor cracks in the work lining (below 5mm) repair the crack with fire mud;
    2. b) When the dry material is partially damaged (the area is not more than ), it can be repaired with the spread material;
    3. c) When the dry material damage area is large (greater than ), it is necessary to re-seat the tire to fill the damaged part with dry material vibrating baking.

    (10) Install the flow stabilizer: clean the inside of the bag and use the dry material to lay the bottom. When the building is built, the brick body should be moved back and forth along the horizontal plane until it is in contact with each other. Dry the material around the stabilizer with a dry material (or spread).

    (11) Installation of slag wall and dam: According to the requirements of the drawings, determine the installation position of the slag wall and dam, and use the crane to hang it. It should be installed perpendicular to the middle package, and the surrounding area should be smeared with the coating material.

    (12) Install the brick: remove the pre-buried steel frame and install the brick according to the specified position. The brick is placed in a flat and accurate position. The brick is filled with dry material. Install the nozzle according to the requirements. Dry material can be used around the upper nozzle.

    Note: The installation block can also be carried out before the bottom of the package, and the upper cover is covered with a steel frame.

The molten steel, which is in contact with the inner faces of the copper mould, starts to sllidify as rapidly as the heat is extracted, forming a shell. The shell increases in thickness as more heat is extracted, and eventually total solidfication is achieved. the process is similar to the solidification of ingots in ingot moulds. In continuous casting, the whole process is speeded up, with the aim to produce and homogeneous shell growth. Consequently, the mould is an important part of the continuous casting process, and the manufactured quality of the mould plays and important role in their length of life.

    INNER SURFACE COATINGS

    Over the years, Metallurgists and Engineers have been working together to develop better continuous casting moulds. The steel companies require a more economical mould which will give a longer service life. Surface coating of the inner walls of the mould has given the best results to date. Coatings available are Chromium and Nickel plating. Also, a combination of the two give good results on slab casting.
